Need Card Inspiration? Let’s Try Raiding the Kitchen!

As I mentioned in my sneak peek of the May/June issue of Paper Crafts on the Moxie Fab World, my absolute favorite section of the issue is the Raiding the Kitchen feature found on pages 2431H.

With 31 unique (and incredible!) projects, this feature shows how to create truly moxie fab projects with the items you find in your kitchen on a daily basis. From measuring spoons to tea bags to cookie cutters to drink umbrellas to wine corks to aluminum foil to paper napkins to waxed paper to cupcake liners to twist ties and much, much, morethis feature literally cooks up a storm of clever ideas.

Groovin’ with the Go-to Gals: I’ve Got My Head In the Clouds

Julie Campbell

I don’t know how the weather is were you live, but around here it’s easy to see that spring has arrived.  I don’t think its stopped raining for a week!

The clouds covering the skies can sometimes get a little dreary, but others are sure to brighten anyone’s day!  For example, take a peek at these adorable, cheery cloud-themed products.

I used the Embroidery Stencil Kit above to create a card that’s anything but gloomy.

Clouds are a great icon to use for encouragement cards. They’re also perfect for shower invitations or to wish someone well. Of course, this trendy icon can be used for just about any occasion!

How would you like to win this For the Record stamp set from Simon Says Stamp?  I don’t know if this polka dot cloud stamp could be any cuter! To be eligible to win, simply leave a comment on this post telling me something you love about spring. One lucky winner will be selected.

Gallery Idol Coming Soon!

Holly Gallery Idol Coming Soon!

Holly Anderson

It’s back! Paper Crafts is proud to announce that its fan-favorite Gallery Idol competition is back for season seven. Last year after some fierce weeks of competition, we named Joscelyne Cutchens our season six winner. But now we’re almost ready to induct the next paper crafter extraordinaire! Maybe even you!

Based on Fox’s hit TV show American Idol, our version will have readers submitting themed projects every week in hopes of becoming the grand prize winner. And just like our TV counterpart, online viewers will vote each week with only the best contestants with the best submissions moving forward in the competition to the next round.

The best part? The perks! Every time a contestant makes it through to the next round, they will each receive a fabulous prize package! Details on our exclusive sponsors and prizes will come at a later date. I promise, it’s worth the wait!

5787495139 744af4f3d1 o Gallery Idol Coming Soon!

Will you be our next Gallery Idol?

Starting Monday, we’ll be holding Open Auditions for season seven. To see last year’s Top 20 cards, click here.

We’d like to make you aware that season seven is open to U.S. residents only. Contestants from previous Gallery Idol competitions are free to enter, except for last year’s grand prize winner. Come back on Monday for all the details (timeline, full rules, prizes, and gallery link). And let’s not forget our amazing grand prize! It’s going to be awesome, but you’ll have to come back and see us Monday to find out what it is!

Thanks for checking in, and we’ll be seeing you again real soon!

Edit added 5/4/2013:

In response to questions raised about the only U.S. participants for this contest, please see below.

Rising shipping costs in the U.S. as well as internationally affects everyone – the magazine, the recipient, and the manufacturers. The cost of shipping contest prizes outside the U.S. can triple or quadruple the cost/value of the prize. Because of this, we made the change to our contests with the exception that if you have a U.S. address, you are more than welcome to participate, knowing it is your responsibility to get the prize from the U.S. address to your physical home.

This change also protects the winner as we have had several past winners that had to pay large sums to receive their prizes, which makes winning an unpleasant experience.

The following is from the official rules regarding the Gallery Idol prize packages and explains the exceptions for International participants:

“The 2013 Gallery Idol Contest (“Contest”) is open to participants living worldwide, including contributors to Paper Crafts magazine and winners of previous contests sponsored by Paper Crafts magazine, except the previous grand prize winner of the 2012 Gallery Idol Contest. Winners in any round who do not have a U.S. shipping address for prize shipments will not receive the prize(s), however will continue to advance to subsequent rounds of the Contest. A grand prize Winner living outside the U.S. is responsible for the airfare and transfer costs to a U.S. city if the grand prize is claimed. Entrants under 18 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian’s permission to enter this Contest.”

We hope you’ll understand and choose to participate in this contest as well as future contests.

Our Go-to Gals have Graduated with These A+ Cards!

Kelly Our Go to Gals have Graduated with These A+ Cards!

P. Kelly Smith

This week we have all six of our Paper Crafts Go-to Gals in town for our annual Editorial Board meeting. This is where we review the previous year’s issues and concept the following year. While we do manage to squeeze in some fun field trips, we really do get down to business and make the most of our time together.

8682194498 828be6dd76 Our Go to Gals have Graduated with These A+ Cards!

At last year’s meeting, we took a field trip to American Crafts where Dear Lizzy herself gave us a preview of her fun 5th & Frolic collection.

In fact, in preparation for this meeting, each editor and Go-to Gal has to complete her own Editorial Board homework. That’s right, homework! For those of us who procrastinate and do it all at once, it definitely feels like we’re back in school and cramming for that big final. But once all of our answers have been compiled (thank you, Ms. Opel!), we have some really great discussions from the results.

Speaking of homework finally paying off, have you looked at the Dear Go-to Gals column from the May/June 2013 issue? This time around, each gal was asked to create a graduation card that doesn’t include the expected mortarboard. And if that wasn’t enough of a challenge, we asked for graduation cards that span all ages and stages of life. From kindergarten to junior high, high school, college, and even nursing school, the gals aced their assignment!

Check out a few of their A+ cards:

As you can see, the Paper Crafts Go-to Gals are some smart cookies! If you’d like the complete supplies and instructions for these graduation cards, plus the three in the magazine, click HERE. (And if you’re currently viewing the digital issue, just click on the “Online Bonus Projects” icon in the bottom right corner—it will take you right to our web site!)

Here’s to a fun week in the Paper Crafts classroom!
